[RFID - puzzlepiece used in the Gulliver's world installation]

Gulliver's World

In Summer 2004, I had the chance to work with a team of about 10 people on the Gulliver's World installation at the Ars Electronica Futurelab, which is currently on exhibition at the Ars Electronica Museum in Linz. (The official project website can be found here: http://www.aec.at/gulliverswelt)
It took about 3 months of work in total to program, which we did in C++ and OpenGL using Visual Studio.net.

Gulliver's World is a virtual world that the museum visitors can create, modify and explore through various interfaces. They can draw the worlds landshape and populate it with virtual charcters and self created objects. Visitors can also place a video recording of themselfes in the world and explore it in 3D. It is possible to create snapshots of Gulliver's World and e-mail them home.
Apart from the technical and educational approach, this installation is also a lot of fun to play around with. It uses quite some cool hardware like magnetical, optical and ultrasonic tracking systems, a lot of projectors and modelling clay. To see an overview of the individual stations, move your cursor over the floor layout below.
